How Water Is Made?
Water is essential for life on Earth and is present in nature in three forms: liquid, solid and gas. Water is essential for our bodies and for many industrial processes. The process of water formation is described as a series of steps that happen both naturally and through human intervention.
Steps Of Water Formation:
- Condensation: Water vapour in the atmosphere is cooled, which reduces its air pressure and causes it to condense and form into drops of liquid. This is the same process that forms clouds.
- Precipitation: This is when water droplets form and grow larger until they become too heavy to be suspended in the air, and they fall as rain or snow.
- Melting: Snow and ice can melt in places where the local temperature increases to its melting point.
- Evaporation: This is when water changes from a liquid to a gas, due to the effects of solar radiation, wind or temperature change.
- Reverse Osmosis: This is when water is removed from a solution and purified by applying a pressure greater than the osmotic pressure. It is often used to purify water for drinking.
- Distillation: Water is evaporated and collected in the form of vapour and then condensed to form distilled water.
These steps are all essential for the formation of water and are part of the continuous cycle known as the water cycle. This cycle is a vital part of the Earth’s climate system and is driven by the energy from the Sun, which powers the evaporation, condensation, precipitation and melting of water.
